The deep honey-orange colour of this oval Madeira Citrine is framed by a narrow rim of glittering facets, giving the broad centre a rich, almost amber glow. Six slender claws hold its outline against a simple 9ct Gold band, with the generous proportions of the stone providing the focal point of this Art Deco solitaire.

Beneath the Citrine is a more decorative surprise: the raised mount has scalloped, petal-like sides, interrupted by long uprights that continue into the claws. Open triangular shoulders connect that detailed setting to the unadorned shank. From the side, the contrast between the substantial oval stone and the fine sweep of Gold is particularly clear.

Ring band is 1.5mm wide at the back.

MATERIALS: Tests as 9ct Gold, Madeira Citrine (7.30ct).

STAMPS: 9CT GOLD.

HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation.

EXCELLENT: The scalloped gallery remains clearly defined, with fine surface marks on the Gold band. A few pale marks are visible on the underside of the Citrine. The broad facets on the face retain their distinct outlines.
